Uganda’s Chief Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe has retired from work, today Friday 19 June 2020.

Justice Katurebe is aged, 69, and tomorrow is clocking 70 years of age.

In his retirement letter to the Judiciary, he has appreciated the Judiciary for the successful tenure at the helm of one of the three arms of the government.

The letter dated Friday June, 19 titled “Justice Bart Katureebe’s last day as Chief Justice”.

Today has marked the last day of Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe’s last official working day as the Chief Justice.

‘I am retiring from Judicial Service as the Chief Justice of Uganda on June 20,2020, states Justice Katureebe in the letter.’

“I wish to take this opportunity yo thank you all collectively and individually for the cooperation and support you have rendered to me and the Judiciary as an institution during my tenure on office, he stated.”

Justice Katureebe further stated in the letter, “It has indeed been a great honour and privilege to work with you all.”

He applauded all workers on the Judiciary for the support.

“I believe that together we have registered some achievements in the administration of Justice on the country, he stated.”

“I would urge all to extend the same support to the on-coming Chief Justice, Justices Katureebe explains.”

The judiciary has organised a small symbolic hand over ceremony on Monday 22, 2020.

He was born on 20 June 1950, in Rugazi Village, Rubirizi district in the Western Region of Uganda to Yowana Magunda and Virginia Ngonzi.

He went to Rugazi Primary School for his elementary schooling from 1957 until 1962.

He then went to St. Joseph Junior Secondary School in Mbarara from 1963 to 1964, and Kitunga High School in Ntungamo district for his O-Level from 1965 until 1968.

Magunda attended Namilyango College, an all-boys boarding school in Mukono district, for his A-Level education from 1969 to 1970.

Four years later, he graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Laws degree.

He went on to receive a Diploma in Legal practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city.

Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe was a justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda, when he was appointed the Chief Justice on 5th March 2015.
