PLU Youth Call for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to Retire as CDF and Run for President in 2026

Naguru, Kampala – August 5, 2024

In a press conference held at their headquarters in Naguru, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) youth voiced their unanimous call for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to retire from his position as Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and prepare to contest for the presidency in the 2026 elections. The youth wing of the PLU, a prominent political organization known for its nationalistic ideals and commitment to progressive change, expressed their belief that General Muhoozi’s leadership could significantly transform Uganda’s political landscape.

Addressing the media, the PLU youth highlighted the need for dynamic and forward-thinking leadership to navigate Uganda through its current socio-economic challenges.

“General Muhoozi has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to our country throughout his military career. It is time for him to bring his vision and experience to the highest political office in Uganda,” A one Pascal Natamba said.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni, has had a distinguished military career. He has played a critical role in various military operations, contributing significantly to national security and regional stability. His tenure as CDF has been marked by a series of reforms aimed at modernizing the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and enhancing its operational efficiency.

Youth Demand for Change

The PLU youth emphasized the urgency of generational change in Uganda’s leadership. “The youth of Uganda are the majority, and we need a leader who understands our aspirations and challenges. General Muhoozi, with his progressive outlook and innovative ideas, is the right candidate to steer our nation towards a prosperous future,” he added

During the press conference, the PLU youth outlined their vision for Uganda under General Muhoozi’s presidency. They advocated for policies that would spur economic growth, create job opportunities for the youth, and improve access to quality education and healthcare. They also stressed the importance of combating corruption and promoting transparency within the government.

The announcement by the PLU youth has sparked considerable public interest and debate. Supporters argue that General Muhoozi’s candidacy could bring much-needed reform and progress to Uganda, while critics caution against the potential implications of dynastic politics.

In response to the growing support for his presidential bid, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has yet to issue an official statement. However, sources close to him suggest that he is considering the call to transition from his military role to a political one.

As the 2026 elections approach, the PLU youth are expected to intensify their campaign, rallying support from various segments of the population. Their call for General Muhoozi to retire as CDF and run for president marks a significant moment in Uganda’s political discourse, reflecting the aspirations of a new generation eager for change and progress.

The PLU youth’s press conference in Naguru underscores a pivotal shift in Uganda’s political dynamics. Their call for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to step down as CDF and contest for the presidency in 2026 reflects a broader desire among Uganda’s youth for leadership that resonates with their aspirations. As the political landscape evolves, all eyes will be on General Muhoozi and his potential bid to lead Uganda into a new era.
