Grief has engulfed the football fraternity in Zombo District following the sudden death of Stephen Okethwengu 19, A football fan of Paidha Town Council based Paidha Back angels Fc. He was a resident of Aringu Cell, Dwonga Ward Paidha Town Council.
Stephen Okethwengu was pronounced dead in Goli Health Center IV when he was reportedly knocked from behind by a speeding motorcycle at around 7:45 PM.
Okethwengu was amongst the many football fans who travelled from Paidha Town to Nebbi Municipality to cheer up Paidha Black Angels FC as they faced their rival Nebbi Central Football Club at Luo grounds in Nebbi Municipality on Sunday 10 December.
Innocent Olokitu, an eyewitness with whom he was moving said the deceased was knocked around Jukia hill in Nebbi Municipality on their way back to Paidha, and the owner of the motorcycle who knocked him fled the scene immediately.
He added that the effort to immediately rush the deceased to A nearby health facility was delayed as many people were declining to carry him.
” We were three on a motorcycle with the deceased, when we reached Jukia, we ran out of fuel and one of us went back to town to fuel the bike, as I was moving in front of him, a few minutes later, he was badly knocked by that person that I couldn’t recognize, The guy who knocked him sped off immediately, we tried to rush him to Goli health centre IV from where he died,” Olokitu told Whisper Eye news.
Thopara Fabianu, a relative of the deceased said “We are keenly following up on who knocked him”.
Other family sources confirmed having sliced information about that person who knocked him and fled.
The body of the deceased was brought back to his ancestral home in Aringu Cell Dwonga Ward Paidha Town Council pending burial.
