By Alex Pithua and Mike Rwothomio

President Museveni has accused National Unity Platform (NUP) twice of cheating him in the 2021 general election in which he emerged winner with his National Resistance Movement party.

He was speaking at the thanksgiving ceremony of the late General Aronda Nyakairima at speke resort Munyonyo.

Museveni justified his statement adding that NUP can take him to courts of law. “So as a consequence of that I have now got all the evidence that NUP cheated my 1 million votes in the 2021 election.” ”At that, I have the facts that NUP can take me to court and they  say Museveni falsely accused us.” And that is what happened 1million votes he added.

The video clip that went viral on social media.

President Museveni  who has been at the helm of the country’s top seat  for nearly four decades, was  addressing hundreds .

His statement elicited a thunderous applause from people,  many of whom look stunned by his claim.

The statement according to many analysts could stoke tension in the lead- up to the 2026 polls.

On March 16th 2021, Museveni, who stood for presidency on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket, won the presidential race with 58% of the vote.

His closest challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine of National Unity Platform (NUP) who according to the Electoral Commission, garnered 35% of the vote, dismissed the results, alleging the poll was rigged in favor of Museveni.

Kyagulanyi would later file a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the annulment of the January 14 presidential election results. He later withdrew the case, accusing the Court of lack of impartiality.

While addressing the nation at State House Nakasero on Sunday 2021, President Museveni commented on the matter for the first time and accused NUP of rigging.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving service for the late General Aronda Nyakairima, Museveni highlighted that NUP massively rigged election in which he  won.

Former Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Aronda was the internal affairs minister when he suddenly passed away while on a flight back home from a foreign trip on September 12, 2015.

The electoral Commissioner Chairman Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama and the team initiated a biometric system of election with the aim of facilitating quick voting and transmission of results to the National tally Centre in Kyambogo University.

But later both Musevening and Kyagulanyi traded counter- accusations about vote rigging seeking sympathy from the voters.

The 2021 elections campaign was electronically facilitated by TV stations, radio stations and social media. This as several measures were put in place to contain the spread of coronavirus.

NUP is yet to respond to Mr Museveni’s claim.
