Music: Joshua Baraka’s Growing Pains EP is a must-listen

Nana” breakout star Joshua Baraka ( @itsJoshuaBaraka) has returned with his third EP this December 6 dubbed ‘Growing Pains’.

Featuring plush production from frequent collaborator and avid beatsmith Axon, AFRIMMA winner Joshua shares a timely project for his beloved fans in time for the holidays.

The Ugandan trailblazer released the project after the success of his groundbreaking “Nana” single that topped the charts, earned him numerous award nominations, and stamped him as one of the brightest stars and prolific acts hailing from East Africa on the international stage.

Joshua’s earlier EPs ‘Watershed’ and ‘Baby Steps’ feature his Ugandan peers Izabelug and Lagum, but on ‘Growing Pains’, Joshua opts for international collaborations, familiar production, and brazen delivery further enhancing his expansive catalog.

“This is my third project and means a lot to me. From the title, it’s about all the struggles I’ve gone through in my career from when I started until now. And for me to be where I am currently is unbelievable sometimes. I wanted to share how much I’ve grown, the things I had to sacrifice, and the things I had to go through in order to make it here, “ Joshua reveals of the project.

‘Growing Pains’ highlights his evolution. Infusing Joshua’s love of dancehall, R&B and production wizardry, ‘Growing Pains’ deals with everything from family break up, to love – requited or otherwise- with a maturity that speaks of songwriting greatness.

With guest spots from Ghana’s Yaw Tog and Nigeria’s Magixx, Joshua joins the dots between Ugandan, Ghana and Nigeria. It’s launched with mass media coverage across Uganda, alongside UK radio support from 1Xtra and Beats.

“This project is special to me. It feels like everything I’ve been through has led to this moment” Joshua Baraka elaborates.

Preceded by the singles “No Lie” with Magixx and “Dreams”, ‘Growing Pains’ is available on all streaming platforms.
