He let the cat of the bag that the Uganda National team that was set for the upcoming CAF CHAN tournament will not be able to participate after the Ministry of Finance failed to provide the funds that were appropriated by the Parliament of Uganda.
Magogo said that the sanctions that will be put on Uganda by CAF for failure to turn up for the tournament will affect the future if as a country we do not hard decisions now to find money to sponsor the national team.
This would be the 2nd time in a period of fewer than 3 months for the cranes to pull out from an international tournament as the Under 23 team also failed to play the qualification fixtures for the under Africa Cup of Nations due to lack of funds.
“Sorry for the players and coaches who qualified the team but it is the moment to face the reality.” Magogo posted on his official social media handles
“Like for the U23, we are left with no further option but to withdraw the @UgandaCranes from CHAN finals because @mofpedU has not provided the funds as appropriated by @Parliament_Ug .” He said
The 7th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be held from January 13 to February 4, 2023, in Algeria.
Uganda had been potted in group B with DRC, Senegal, and Ivory Coast as her opponents. Uganda has in the past qualified for 5 of the last 6 editions of the CHAN tournament.
