Big Story: Scientific elections! Museveni & EC agrees to 2021 polls, campaigns will be online!!

Scientific elections! Museveni , EC agrees to 2021 polls as campaigns will be online!! Whisper Eye Reports.

Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has agreed on organising a scientific general election in 2021. Whisper Eye has learnt.

A delegation of EC top officials yesterday Friday 12 June, 2020, in a meeting at State House Entebbe discussed and agreed with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over the coming elections.

The EC presented a document containing several proposals regarding the 2021 general elections road map and how it can be carried out minding about the preventive measures of the COVID-19 pandemic, recommended by doctors, and implemented through the presidential order.

The Entebbe State house meeting was a follow up of many meetings held days earlier.

In the previous meeting, president Museveni made it clear he wasn’t prepared to listen to any proposals calling for postponement of elections.

The president asked Simon Byabakama, the EC boss to prepare to hold elections as planed earlier before the deadly Corona Virus threatened the country.

EC officials assured Mr Museveni that the health ministry leadership had scrutinized their documented proposals and made input resulting into the best scientific proposal.

Reliable Sources say that president Museveni agreed with everything the EC top officials suggested in their document.

“We had gone to consult if he was comfortable with how we intend to proceed and it was important to consult him to know how best we can organise general elections amidst Covid-19 disease,’ one of the EC top officials told Whisper Eye News.

The Electoral Commission suggested that all candidates, not just Presidential ones, will use social media, radio and TVs only to convey their political messages to voters.

Its dangerous for people to congregate into large masses, Museveni told the officials,

He said no rallies , political meetings of whatever nature, are going to be allowed since the pandemic has seen numbers increased.

According to the EC, Uganda is to hold the general elections early next year, 2021, amidst delays in the electoral process by the lock down and other Covid-19 related preventive measures.

Under this a new development as candidates will each meet the cost of the media airtime for their campaign messages.

A source informed Whisper Eye that UCC will strengthen its regulations and control the messages passed on during the campaigning period by all politicians.

More details later.
