MP Nyeko Derrick urges Busiro voters to retain Hon Medard Ssegona amid critical 2026 election moment

In a passionate appeal ahead of the 2026 general elections, Hon Nyeko Derrick, the Member of Parliament for Makindye East, has called on voters in Busiro East to safeguard experienced leadership by re-electing Hon Medard Lubega Ssegona.

In a statement shared publicly, Hon Nyeko described the current political juncture as “critical” for Uganda, emphasizing that the country cannot risk losing leaders defined by courage, wisdom, and unwavering principle.

“Leadership grounded in courage, wisdom, and principle is rare and when we have it, we must protect it,” Nyeko wrote. He portrayed Hon Ssegona as “not a leader of convenience” but a principled figure committed to the rule of law, justice, and the dignity of ordinary Ugandans.

Highlighting Ssegona’s credentials as a seasoned lawyer with deep knowledge of the Constitution, Nyeko praised his fearless parliamentary record. “A parliamentarian who speaks without fear or favour… He has been firm when others were silent. He has defended institutions when they were under threat. He has chosen country over comfort, principle over popularity,” the statement read.

Nyeko urged voters in Busiro East not to “gamble” with their representation at this pivotal time. “This is not the time to gamble with leadership. This is the time to retain wisdom, experience, and integrity,” he stressed. He concluded with a direct call: “Let us be wise. Let us be deliberate. Let us stand with leadership that protects the law and the future of our country. Busiro, vote Medard Ssegona Lubega.”

Hon Medard Lubega Ssegona has represented Busiro East in Parliament since 2011, serving multiple terms as a prominent opposition voice affiliated with the National Unity Platform (NUP). Known for his legal expertise and advocacy on public accountability, he currently chairs key parliamentary committees and has been a vocal defender of constitutional principles.

The endorsement comes against the backdrop of intense political dynamics in Busiro East, including internal party deliberations within NUP over candidate selections for the 2026 polls. Nyeko’s message underscores the value of continuity and principled representation amid ongoing debates about renewal versus experience in the opposition ranks.

Voters in Busiro East will decide Ssegona’s fate in the upcoming elections, where issues of leadership stability, rule of law, and national direction are expected to dominate campaigns.
