In a bold move, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has announced plans to field candidates in all elective positions in the 2026 elections. This revelation was made by the party’s head of media and communications, Mr. Muzeyi Faizo, during a press conference held at the party headquarters in Kampala on December 11, 2024.
According to Faizo, the UPC is ready to offer leadership to the country for the third time, and has urged all Ugandans to join the party. The party’s presidential flag bearer will be Hon. Jimmy Akena, the party president and son of former President Dr. Milton Obote.
The UPC’s decision to field candidates in all elective positions is a clear indication of the party’s determination to regain power and make a meaningful impact on the country’s political landscape.
As the country prepares for the 2026 elections, the UPC’s move is likely to shake up the political scene, presenting Ugandans with a fresh set of options and alternatives.
The Electoral Commission has already announced the polling dates for the various elective positions, with the presidential election scheduled to take place on February 18, 2026, followed by parliamentary elections on the same day.¹

The red and black party has in the past had a chance to be in total charge of the country on two accasions 1966-1971 and 1980-1985 being ousted out through a coup on both occassions.
