In a tragic turn of events, the brother of Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura identified as Tugume Albert Cook, 33 was shot dead during a mobile money robbery. The incident occurred on Thursday 21st November 2024 at around 8pm in Ntinda, leaving the family and community in shock and grief.
According to initial reports, armed robbers stormed a mobile money outlet where Tugume, the brother of Ms. Nyanjura, was conducting business. In the chaos that ensued, the assailants opened fire, fatally wounding him and taking off with the bag that contained the money plus other gadgets. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with the attackers fleeing immediately after the shooting.
Efforts to rush the victim to the hospital were futile, as he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack. A boda boda man only identified as Barnabas who tried to come to rescue of Tugume was also shot dead and died this morning while in Mulago hospital. Police have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident, urging the public to provide any information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects.

The news has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents decrying the increasing insecurity and targeting of mobile money operators. Mobile money agents have long been vulnerable to armed robberies due to the high cash transactions involved in their business.
