Truck plunges into River Nyagak after deadly Head-on collision in Zombo

A truck carrying alcoholic drinks  plunged into River Nyagak in Zombo district after it reportedly collided with a motorcycle rider.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 24,  at around 10:00am 

at Mathawele Village, Oyeyu Parish, Nyapea Sub-County,  Zombo district.

The truck registration number and the identities of the injured victims remains unclear. Both the truck and the motorcycle are still immersed in the waters awaiting traffic police from Paidha Central Police Station.

An eyewitness only identified as Moses, told this publication that the truck was coming from Paidha town  council and  almost knocked  an over speeding motorcycle, carrying three passengers from Nyapea Sub-County direction.

” The truck  had two people on board, it was coming at a very high speed and they almost collided with a motorcycle carrying three people on Nyagak bridge, The motorcycle rider and the passengers jumped off allowing the bike to fly into the waters while the truck plunged into the river with all the two people onboard”  He explained, adding that ” the motorcycle rider also sustained serious injuries “

Jaloch Crespo, another eyewitness said ” the two  critically injured victims  including the motorcycle rider, were retrieved from the waters and rushed to Nyapea Hospital, the whole thing is terrible here at the scene” 

Joe Ubedgiu, the area Councillor of Oyeyu Parish, Nyapea Sub-County, confirmed that ” no death has been registered and we shall keep you posted about it”

Meanwhile,  Fred Onenarach, the chairperson Zombo district boda boda association confirmed that  , the boda boda rider is from Padea boda boda association in Padea town council.

He said  ” We Understand that he was from a visit at  Nyapea Hospital, he sustained injuries after jumping off with both passengers”

Onenarach called upon riders to avoid reckless riding, as festive season approaches.

By Press time, Police From Paidha Central Police Station, were yet to visit the scene where hundreds had gathered to witness the Thursday Morning rudely awakening experience.

In September this year, Traffic Police released a damning road crash statistics indicating that 

During the week of September 8-14 , 61 people lost their lives, and 308 others sustained serious injuries.

The report also  indicated that  pedestrians and motorcyclists  accounted for 82% of the fatalities.
