Two PDM leaders arrested over extortion in Nebbi

In a serious crackdown on saboteurs of Parish Development model, leaders in Nebbi District led by the Assistant Resident District Commissioners  Olama Stephen Clay and Mr Owachgiu Donald have confirmed the  arrests of  two PDM  SAACO leaders over reported extortion.

The two whose identities were not disclosed by press time include the  chairperson and secretary of a PDM SAACO in Lee Village, Kucwiny Sub-County.

Its alleged that the two currently in detention,  extorted Shs 120,000 each from yet to be disclosed number of  beneficiaries in the area prompting swift action from leaders.

In a statement signed by two Assistant Resident District Commissioners Nebbi, the arrests serve as a warning to other SAACO leaders perpetuating similar unlawful practices.

“We in Nebbi are continuing with supervision and monitoring of PDM program and money. The 2 arrested today are Chairman and Secretary PDM SACCO of Lee village in Kucwiny  Sub-county for extortion of Shs  120.000  from each beneficiary. This we can’t tolerate in NRM”.

The statement adds that ” the other Pdm Sacco leaders in other sub counties should take note” 

Lately,   greater Nebbi leaders have Intensified operation against saboteurs of Parish Development model marred with  extortion of would-be beneficiaries by some SAACO leaders and Parish chiefs respectively.

Recently, the  Resident District Commissioner of Pakwach Paul Eseru netted some SAACO leaders over extortion, similarly ,  some leaders were recently arrested in Kango Sub county Zombo District by the office of the RDC headed by Grace Atim.

Government introduced Parish development model as one of its robust Poverty eradication programme aimed at transforming lives of 39 percent of Ugandans rooted in subsistence to money economy.
