Electrician  arrested for causing death of two minors in Zombo

Authorities at Paidha central police station in Zombo have arrested Francis Omirambe, a resident of Alisi Thungu Cell, Dwonga Ward , Paidha Town Council  to aid in the death by  drowning of two kids in a pit.

The Wednesday 3rd April incident was confirmed by the Area LC1 Chairperson of Alisi Thungu Cell, Dwonga Ward Paidha Town  Charles Mawa,  who later reported the case to police who acted swiftly to arrest the suspect who dug the pit.

The deceased all Alur by tribe were identified as  Ocandi Asinata , Female juvenile aged 01 year, daughter of Nyamutono sarah and  Tamara Vion female juvenile aged 02 years, daughter of Mandawun Christine  all residents of Alisithungu cell, Dwonga ward, Paidha Town Council, Zombo District respectively.

The Westnile regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia  in a statement said ” The two victims who lived within the same compound, after a heavy downpour were found drowned in a pit by a neighbour who alerted the area chairman who in turn reported to police for further management.” 

She added that ” The one who dug the pit and left it open was arrested to help police with investigations.

Inquiries indicate that the pit was dug, and left uncovered” .

The children whose parents went for garden work were left unattended to.

After visiting and documenting the crime scene, The bodies were  retrieved and delivered to  Paidha Health Centre III mortuary for  postmortem,  and  later handed over for further burial arrangements. 

Police  advise the general public not to leave pits dug for constructing latrines around home yards open especially in this rainy season.

The case is registered at Paidha central Police Station under CBR 103/2024.

The Chairperson of the association of LC1s that comprises leaders from over 40 villages across the town Mr Owonda Emilio,  has appealed to the management of  Westnile rural electrification company ( WENRECO) ,  to adress the issue of pits dug across the town for earthing in their ongoing subsidized connection campaign.

In response, Judith Wanguic , The Spokesperson for WENRECO  regrets the incident further issuing clarification that  it’s not the company that created pits for earthing across the town and it’s the responsibilities of every one to ensure their homes are safe.

She also advised members of the public to use professional electricians.

Recently, a child also drowned in a pit of a  septic tank in Mission village, Oturgang ward Paidha Town Council and  early This year, Two youths with hearing impairment drowned in river Nyagak in Nyapea Sub-county
