10 people arrested in Zombo over gruesome murder of two

Local leaders in Jangokoro Sub-county Zombo District have confirmed that ten people from Afuda Parish have been arrested by Police to aid in the investigation following the gruesome murder of two senior citizens early this week.

The incident happened at around 5:30 pm on November 28  . The deceased were identified as Udubu Hillary 70 and 80-year-old Angelina  Thikulu,  both residents of Paronya Village.

It’s reported that the community of  Paronya Village came under attack by the charged community members from the two villages of Ogalu and Omoko.

Local leaders attributed the incident to a protracted land dispute that existed between the two rival sides for nearly 10 years.

A source within Paidha Central Police Station confirmed the arrest of the 10 to Whisper Eye News further revealing that a list of more than 70 people has been lined up for arrest.

This Publication understands that the area LC1 chairperson of Omoko village is amongst the arrested suspects.

David Binen Arua, The District councillor of Jangokoro Sub county confirmed the arrest of the suspects adding many people have abandoned the village.

He advised elders to show proper demarcation to youths to avoid the occurrence of similar incidents before calling out locals for taking laws into their own hands.

” As I talk now, 10 people are in police custody to help in the investigation, Many people have abandoned that place, people should avoid taking laws into their own hands” Binen told the Whisper Eye News.

Three people were badly injured during the attack and are for treatment at Nyapea Hospital.

The LC3 chairperson of Jangokoro Charles Okecha said  the violence led to razing of 40 huts in Paronya Village

Gilbert Lenga , The LC1 chairperson of the neighboring   Pavur Village Yada Parish   told this Publication “Many people have lost their properties and are taking refuge in his village that he stressed needs more support” .

Recently over 200 huts were set alight in Zombo following death of one person that was killed as a result of the protracted land dispute in Aka Sub-county.
