Work on a major road begins in Zombo

Zombo district local government has kickstarted work on 8kms of road  Stretch connecting Zeu and Alangi sub-counties. #WhisperEyeNews #UgandaNews

The road which is always dusty during the dry season and impassable during the rainy season,  For long  has been attracting choruses of scathing criticism from locals due its sorry state.

Work on Zeu_ Lor _Ngele-Alangi road also includes timber decking of three bridges on  Oraa river, Athuda 1 and 2.  The project cost is   94 Million Ugandan shillings.

The LCV chairperson of Zombo District James Oruna Oyullu said  “The district plan to work on the road to ease access to major markets in Zeu and Alangi”  Before assuring locals that there is a plan to have other major roads in the neighbouring areas fixed to ease movements.

He further stressed that what is slowing down work progress on major roads in the district is insufficient funds.

The LC3 chairperson of Alangi Sub_County Jackson Meuva has commended The district Leadership for the milestone 

He also appealed for the upgrade of a 24 km stretch that connects the sub_county to other neighbouring Sub_Counties.

The road upgrade has spark excitement amongst locals.

Parmu Christine, A resident of Ndara Parish Alangi Sub-County expresses happiness saying ” We used to face difficulties in movement with our merchandise, I think this place is one of the most disconnected places”,

Alex Okethwengu, The catechist of Abilomu zone in Ndara Parish explained that ” This road was really deplorable,its posing a great challenge to our church members here. One day, I spoke several times to  the LC3 Chairperson Alangi and Zeu about this road, we are so excited about the upgrade of this road”.

The road that is being upgraded  under class 2 status  will take 5.4 metres wide and alignment had been done to avoid excess damage to Properties according to the district engineer Isaac Ngagenu.

Ngagenu also appealed to the locals to cooperate with workers undertaking work at the site Incase of any damage.

Zombo district has a total of 440 kilometres of roads out of which District roads take the lion’s share of 288 km.

Roads already upgraded 

In the last financial year, the Zombo district local government was able to upgrade Zale_Ayaka_ Chonguba Road, Atyenda-Chongambe Pakadha Road, Ther-Agu  Asina-Abeju 

The LC3 chairperson of Alangi Sub_County Jackson Meuva has commended the District leadership and he also appealed for extension of work on other road Stretch in the area.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing on Anyadha – Padea road and work on Jupumwochu- Omyer road is kick-starting According to the district LC 5 chairperson James Oruna Oyullu.

Many district Leadership across the country are still expecting 146  billion Promise worth of road funds to 146 districts in Uganda by  President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
