By Achora Geofrey Jr

PAKWACH:  local government representatives in Pakwach district have heaped praise on the efforts of the state minister for Northern Uganda in shaping and actively performing various programs that are aimed at fostering development and elevating poverty among youths in Northern Uganda.

They insist that such outstanding and diligent service has also expedited lobbying capacity and networking in different ministries at the central government for the district.

The leaders were discussing cohesion as a tool to actively involve in development initiatives put in place by Government to recover from poverty and increase household income.

Robert Omito Steen the Pakwach district chairperson states that minister Grace Freedom Kwiocwiny in her docket has been passionate about the challenges that peddle the district on government issues.

Omito added that: “I want to thank the minister for always being there for us whenever we tell her the challenges and the burden that the people of Pakwach district are going through and she’s very passionate about government issues we want to congratulate the government for her placement in that office .it’s even our prayer that she continues to be there and she continues to pick our voice”

Insha Ntumbwa the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Pakwach whom the minster delegated to represent   explained that the minister has addressed the past mistakes that delayed the progress of government programs for Northern Uganda and that her choice wasn’t a gamble

“ I want to appreciate the minister in her absence for being there every time we call on her from what I have seen and the time have worked with her in my opinion she’s the best choice for northern Uganda and I want to appreciate my president for appointing her a minister” Insha added.

However, with tension and conflict escalating between the Acholi and the Jonam people over the ownership and occupation and usage of the pa’lango land saga in Nwoya district that has resulted in displacement and killings, the cultural and religious leaders in the neighbourhood want the minister to arbitrate the reconciliation through the office of the president to bring lasting peace and harmony.

Oucha Nelson Prime Minister Ker Kwaro Jonam stressed that the government poverty intervention program can’t ably be embraced when the Luo dynasty is fighting in Northern Uganda

“she has performed well and played her role very well to help the people of northern Uganda but there are some key areas that need to be handled that’s the land dispute between the Acholi and the Jonam so my humble request to minster Kwiocwiny and His Excellency the president is if he can intervene and handle these issue of pa’lango would be very appreciated and welcomed,” Oucha said.

Under the northern Uganda rehabilitation program in the prime minister’s office, Pakwach district implemented both NUSAF1 and 2 and DINU supported by the European Union.
