What you need to know

The foot soldiers of the National Unity Platform are supporters who seem unimportant and who do not have a role of authority in the party but who do a large amount of very important and often very boring work.

The opposition legislators from the National Unity Platform (NUP) are engulfed in fear after foot soldiers increase their volume in demanding money from them to an extent of directly attacking and assaulting them. #WhisperEyeNews

This week Jinja City Woman MP Manjeeri Kyebakutika was the victim when NUP foot soldiers from Jinja attacked her at Bugembe a suburb of Jinja City while going back home, demanding money, and she was beaten seriously after failing to meet their demands.

MP Manjeeri Kyebakutika was rushed to a nearby health facility for first aid and later admitted to a hospital which top party officials decided to keep anonymous.

Innocent Hon Manjeeri cried out for help pleading to foot soldiers to forgive her because she had no money, but her request was not granted at all, an eye witness narrated to Whisper Eye reporter.

National Unity Platform (NUP) top leadership has banned any party member even Hon Manjeeri to appear in the media over this incident, but our sources in Jinja City have intimated to us that the legislator was seriously beaten, and she is receiving medication.

Our sources say most NUP MPs are worried as this tendency is growing in the party, last year Butambala MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi was assaulted in Kyabadaaza sub-county by foot soldiers.

Kawempe South MP Alhajji Kaibwe Bashir while appearing in his constituency foot soldiers attacked him with all sorts of insults and currently the flamboyant Mp is quiet.

Currently, foot soldiers on social media are demanding the sacking of Uganda’s parliament Leader of Opposition Hon Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, and replacing him with Mityana Municipality MP Hon Zaake Francis Butebi.

They accuse MP Mpuuga of not leading them to the streets to demonstrate against president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni whom they accuse to rig their votes in the 2021 presidential elections, saying that NUP president Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert a.k.a Bobi Wine won.

Several NUP MPs have been discouraged by the growing demands from their supporters (foot soldiers) in terms of monetary cash and not service which is the mandate of a legislator.

The MPs wish their party leadership does something to control foot soldiers who only listen to their party president Mr. Bobi Wine.

Many NUP MPs fear their constituencies due to threats from their own supporters (foot soldiers).

We shall keep you updated on this development.
