Ssemogerere told me who killed Kayiira, says Bobi Wine

National Unity Platform President Hon Robert Kyagulanyi shocked the mourners during the burial of the late Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere when he revealed that during the many times he met the deceased, he informed him about the person who was behind the assassination of Dr. Lutakoome Kayiira in 1987, the then Minister for Energy and rebel leader of the Uganda Freedom Movement (UFM).

Kyagulanyi in his speech said Kayiira was assassinated the same way likes of the late Mohammed Kirumira and AIGP Andrew Kaweesi adding that he will one day reveal who killed all of them to the public when Gen Museveni’s government is overthrown.

“Tell President Museveni that the late Ssemogerere told me who killed Kayiira the same way Afande Kirumira and Kaweesi were killed. Tell him I Know and I will one day speak it out.” Kyagulanyi said

Andrew Lutaakome Kayiira born 30th January 1945 was the leader of the Uganda Freedom Movement (UFM), a guerrilla organization that fought the governments of Milton Obote and Tito Okello between 1980 and 1986.

Kayiira and the UFM were often seen as rivals to the National Resistance Movement – NRM led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni which was also fighting a guerrilla war against the Obote and Okello governments.

When the NRM took power in 1986, Kayiira was appointed Minister for Energy by Museveni. Later that year, he was arrested for treason but later released. He was murdered by unknown gunmen on 9 March 1987.
