Unidentified assailants have shot dead a trader in Kasambya village in Kito Sub County in Nakaseke district, bringing to three the number of people killed in a similar manner within a space of three days.
Isah Ssemwogerere, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson has only identified the deceased trader as Mayengo.
Preliminary police investigations show that the assailants raided the shop where the deceased was with two others and placed them at gunpoint while demanding for cash.
They opened fire-killing Mayengo while his colleagues escaped with gunshot wounds.
According to Ssemwogerere, after killing the deceased, the assailants made off with Shillings 7million and mobile phones.
The attack in Kasambya come three days after a similar attack claimed
two lives at Kimaga village in Nabiswera Sub County in Nakasongola district.
The dead were identifies as Christine Nakagwa and Herbert Ssempijja.
The Nakasongola District Police Commander, Patience Namara, said they treated the attack as a case of aggravated robbery.
Police investigations showed that the same assailants first shot at Joseph Kato, the owner of the shop that was targeted for robbery.
Kato had just parked his vehicle loaded with merchandise around 9:30 pm on
Thursday, when the attackers suddenly appeared and commanded everybody to lie
down before demanding for cash.
Kato handed over the cash to the assailants as he pleaded for cash. One of the assailants entered the shop where Christine Nakaggwa was with her baby and demanded more money before shooting her dead.
Kato and his workers identified as Fred Kajunguli survived with gunshot wounds.
The thugs shot Kato’s brother, Herbert Ssempijja while escaping from the robbery scene.
Police is yet to arrest any suspect in connection to the attacks. Ssemwogerere told URN that they are yet to establish whether the attacks are connected.
