Personality of the day: Meet Teddy Nambooze a woman who started the only bank in Kammengo Sub County. Whisper Eye Reports.

Today meet Ms Teddy Nambooze the founder of Trust Development Initiative (TRUDI) SACCO bank located in Kammengo trading center 45km along Kampala – Masaka High Way.

TRUDI Bank is Nambooze’s effort to help her community in Kammengo sub-county Mpigi district to eradicate poverty.

Kammengo trading center has commercial bank (the nearest being Centenary Bank, which is located 15Km in Mpigi town council) TRUDI bank is the only financial institution in the town.

Ms Nambooze who conceived the vision of the bank and spearheaded its implementation, has a role model in the area.

She attained a degree in Business Administration from Nkumba University in 2002, and also worked as a data entrant at the Ministry of Education.

Ms Nambooze joined The Hunger Project in Kalamba sub county in Butambala district. The Kalamba Food Farmer Initiative project under Hunger project which intended to teach women in the area financial skills to alleviate poverty.

The project setup a SACCO bank and Nambooze was recruited as a staff of the Kalamba Food Farmer Initiative (KAFFI) SACCO Bank.

Due to her hard work, she was shortly promoted to the position of bank manager.

Ms Nambooze started a group of about 25 people and by September 2011, the membership of the group had grown to about 90 people and they realised that they needed extra financial help as their savings were no longer sufficient to meet their needs.

In October 2011, Trust Development Initiative (TRUDI) SACCO Bank was registered, upgrading the savings group to a SACCO bank.

Recently Ms Nambooze resigned her responsibility as the manager of TRUDI to join politics.

Ms Nambooze has served on various positions, in the Buganda government in Mawokota County, in the Catholic church, Mawokota Football team committee among others.

In 2016, Ms Nambooze Teddy contested on the Mpigi district woman MP seat and lost the seat to National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Hon Nalawunde Sarah by a simple margin.

Yesterday Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu’s party National Unity Platform (NUP) selected Ms Teddy Nambooze as their flag bearer for Mpigi district woman MP seat.
