Exclusive: How UPC’s Akena forced EC to ban Bobi Wine’s new party NUP from using their red colour. Whisper Eye Reports

Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) party president who is also Lira municipality legislator Jimmy Akena has defeated Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine on the red color.

Recently Mr Wine defeated President Museveni spying network to register The National Unity Platform (NUP) in the electoral commission thus securing an Umbrella as the symbol for his political party.

MP Kyagulanyi who started the People Power, Our Power Movement platform using red and white, and members identified by wearing red barrets.

However, after Hon Kyagulanyi registering NUP as his political party, UPC president Jimmy Akena petitioned the EC over the red color.

In his petition MP Akena asked the Electoral Commission to act all political parties that are using the red color to confuse UPC supporters.

On response, EC boss Justice Byabakama assured Mr Akena protection of the red colour, as a reserve for the UPC party.

A reliable source told Whisper Eye News that Mr Akena met president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who ordered the EC to act basing on the law, to implement Akena’s UPC party requests to the EC.

By implementing and responding to Akena’s application NUP was given the dark blue color which Kibalama’s political party sold to Bobi Wine.

Political analysts have advised MP Kyagulanyi to immediately start popularising the dark blue and white colors for the NUP party.
