According to Buwunga residents these insects which they call ‘desert locusts’ are eating up their crops, thus calling help from Uganda government.

Mr Jude Mbabaali Masaka Lc V chairperson has told Whisper Eye that there are no televised desert locusts outbreak in the district.

“Communities in Buwunga identified grasshoppers that were thought to be similar to highly televised desert locust outbreak.” Mr Mbabaali said.

‘Our District Entomologist has confirmed that the insects are ordinary grasshoppers and NOT Desert locusts.” He added.

A team of people from Masaka district leadership lead by district Entomologist went to affected areas for samples.
