Four Suspects  on the run over  murder of  90-year-old Woman

The police in Lira City are investigating and searching for four suspects accused of masterminding the murder of a 90-year-old woman from a burial.

The deceased identified as Mary Epila was assaulted to death on Monday afternoon,  by a group of mourners in Gwengabara Cell,  Boroboro West Ward,  Lira City East on allegations of witchcraft.

According to the police report, the deceased was sighted with a white pill throwing unknown substances during the burial of Stephen Engom,  who had died in a motor crash in Luwero district.

Out of suspicion, the mourners attacked her and assaulted her to death.

Tom Ocero, the deceased son, and Stephen Okori, the area local council chairperson who were at the scene said they could not save the situation as the crowd descended on the elderly Mother.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson said on Wednesday that key suspects including Patrick Odong, Vincent Okello, Dicken Ongom, and Epila Opio who masterminded the incident are on the run.

The case of suspected murder by the mob is being investigated by the police in Lira City Central Police Station under GEF 23/2024.
