Just In: Bobi Wine accuses Museveni regime of Assassination Plot as security forces block his campaign in Teso

Whisper Eye Reporter ,

Opposition presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known as Bobi Wine, has accused Ugandan security forces of harassing his team and blocking their movements in eastern Uganda, amid his repeated warnings of an assassination plot by the Museveni regime before the January 2026 elections.

In a tense series of events today, Bobi Wine reported that military and police intercepted his group in Amuria District, denying access to prepaid accommodation despite prior booking. Forced to reroute to Soroti, the team faced another blockade at Otuboi as they approached the city, with authorities refusing entry to alternative lodging.

“We don’t know what they’re planning now,” Bobi Wine stated on social media, linking the incidents to his longstanding claims that President Yoweri Museveni intends to assassinate him before voting day.

This follows a pattern of disruptions on the campaign trail, including blockades, tear gas, and violence in districts like Gulu, Mukono, and Kayunga. The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader has described the environment as a “war zone,” alleging systematic efforts to suppress opposition activities.

Security officials have yet to respond to the latest incidents. Human rights organizations have raised alarms over shrinking civic space and political intimidation under Museveni’s rule.

As the 2026 elections approach, Bobi Wine vows to continue mobilizing supporters despite the obstacles, calling for international attention to the threats against his life. The situation remains volatile, with calls for de-escalation to avoid further conflict.
