Zombo Local Leaders condemned  Brutal murder of LCI Executive

ZOMBO: Unknown maniacs  ambushed and fatally attacked Nason Ocokuru, believed to be in his 50s and an executive member of the Local Council I in Coramara Cell, Omua Ward, Paidha Town Council, Zombo District.

Ocokuru’s body was discovered near Zingili Stream in Macwere Cell, Omua Ward, on the morning of Saturday, April 10, 2025, causing widespread shock and fear in the community.

The motive of the suspected  gangbangers behind the  homicide remains undetermined.

Tony Oyirwoth, a relative of the victim, stated that the perpetrators slit Ocokuru’s throat  and mutilated other parts of his body in a vicious assault.

Collins Iwutung, the LCI chairperson of Coramara Cell, confirmed the homicide, noting that Ocokuru was likely killed while returning from a funeral in Awora, Paidha Sub-County.

Iwutung labeled the killing “unjustified,” emphasizing Ocokuru’s role as a respected elder and council executive, and called for a comprehensive investigation.

“He attended a funeral in Awora and didn’t return. His family alerted my office, prompting an exhaustive search that led to the discovery of his body by Zingili Stream,” Iwutung told this publication.

Joyce Kayeny, Omua Ward’s female councilor, condemned the crime and advocated for adherence to the rule of law.

A police team, visited the victim’s family, urging calm and promising a thorough investigation to apprehend the suspects.

Officers documented the crime scene and transported Ocokuru’s body to Paidha Health Center III mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

During a recent regional tour, SSP Latif Zaake, West Nile Regional Police Commander, spoke at Paidha Cultural Center, urging stakeholders to unite in addressing rising homicide cases, particularly those involving mob violence.

According to the 2024 Police Annual Crime Report, homicides increased to 4,329 cases in 2024, compared to 4,248 in 2023.
