FDC Nominates Amuriat and Mafabi for 2026 Presidential Flagbearer Race

In a significant milestone ahead of the 2026 General Elections, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party Electoral Commission has today officially nominated two formidable candidates to vie for the party’s Presidential Flagbearer position.

The nominated candidates are Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the party’s former presidential candidate in 2021 and former FDC president, and Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the long-serving Secretary General and a Member of Parliament representing Budadiri West.

The nominations mark the beginning of what promises to be a dynamic internal campaign. Over the coming weeks, both candidates will embark on a nationwide tour, engaging with delegates and party structures across Uganda to present their visions for the party and the country at large.

According to the Party Electoral Commission, the process has so far been transparent, peaceful, and in line with FDC’s commitment to democratic values. “We are confident that this internal process will not only strengthen our party but also set a precedent for mature political competition,” a commission official noted.

The final showdown is scheduled for July 2025, when the FDC will convene its National Delegates’ Conference to elect one of the two as the official Presidential Flagbearer for the 2026 General Elections.

Both Amuriat and Mafabi are seasoned political figures with loyal support bases, rich histories of activism, and deep roots within the FDC. Their candidacies are expected to energize the party’s grassroots and renew public interest in its political direction.

As the clock ticks toward July, all eyes will be on how the candidates shape their campaigns, articulate their policy positions, and rally support in what is set to be a defining moment for the FDC.
