Erias Nalukoola’s Victory in Kawempe North By-Election Officially Gazetted by Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially gazetted Erias Nalukoola’s victory in the Kawempe North by-election, putting an end to speculation about whether he would be sworn into Parliament. The long-awaited announcement follows a visit by National Unity Platform (NUP) officials to the Electoral Commission offices earlier today to inquire about the delay.

During the visit, NUP representatives pressed the EC for answers regarding the prolonged process of gazetting the results, raising concerns about the growing uncertainty surrounding Nalukoola’s swearing-in. In response, EC officials assured them that they were finalizing the process, and soon after, the gazette was released.

However, the gazette revealed a surprising detail. It indicated that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Hajati Faridah Nambi, received 9,058 votes—higher than the previously announced figure of 8,593 votes. This discrepancy has sparked questions, but the EC has not yet offered an explanation.

With his victory now gazetted, Nalukoola is expected to be sworn in as the Kawempe North Member of Parliament by the Speaker. This will formally conclude the electoral process and affirm Nalukoola’s mandate to represent the people of Kawempe North.

Nalukoola’s win is considered a major boost for the National Unity Platform, further cementing their influence in Kampala. NUP leaders and supporters have expressed relief at the resolution of the matter and are eagerly anticipating the swearing-in ceremony.

Now that the gazette has been published, attention turns to Parliament, where Nalukoola will take his oath of office and officially begin his duties as the elected representative of Kawempe North.
