Hon. Dr. Twaha Kagabo Praises UPDF for Maintaining Peace and Security in Uganda at Terehe Sita launch

Bukoto South Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Twaha Kagabo, has commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s peace and security. His remarks came during the official launch of Tarehe Sita celebrations at the UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.

During the event, Hon. Dr. Kagabo acknowledged the sacrifices made by the UPDF in ensuring that Uganda remains a peaceful and stable nation. He highlighted the crucial role the army has played in securing borders, combating insurgencies, and fostering economic development through peace and stability.

“The UPDF has not only secured Uganda from internal and external threats but has also contributed to regional peacekeeping missions. We are proud of their patriotism and discipline,” Dr. Kagabo stated.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Dr. Kagabo also expressed profound gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his courageous decision to launch a guerrilla war against the dictatorial regime of Milton Obote, a move that ultimately led to the liberation of Uganda.

“Had it not been for President Museveni’s bold and selfless decision to stand against dictatorship, Uganda would not have the stability it enjoys today. His vision and commitment to the people’s freedom paved the way for the democratic and peaceful nation we now have,” he remarked.

He further noted that President Museveni’s leadership has enabled Uganda to build a strong and professional army, which continues to defend the sovereignty of the nation and promote socio-economic development.

Tarehe Sita, observed every 6th of February, marks the day in 1981 when the National Resistance Army (NRA) launched the liberation struggle against the Obote regime. It is a day to honor the sacrifices of the Ugandan armed forces and celebrate the milestones achieved in ensuring national security and development.

As part of the celebrations, the UPDF has been carrying out community outreach programs across the country, including free medical camps, infrastructure improvements, and sanitation initiatives to strengthen the bond between the army and the civilian population. This year’s celebrations will be held in Kyotera District on 6th Feb 2025.

Hon. Dr. Kagabo urged Ugandans to appreciate the role of the UPDF in fostering national unity and economic transformation. He encouraged the youth to learn from Uganda’s history and actively participate in maintaining peace and stability.

“Peace is the foundation of development. Without security, we cannot achieve economic prosperity. That is why we must all support the UPDF and work together to build a better Uganda,” he emphasized.

Hon. Dr. Twaha Kagabo’s remarks at the Tarehe Sita celebrations reaffirmed the vital role of the UPDF in maintaining Uganda’s security and development. His tribute to President Museveni’s historic liberation struggle further highlighted the significance of the sacrifices made to ensure Uganda’s stability.

As Uganda continues to progress, the role of the UPDF as a pillar of national unity and defense remains crucial, ensuring that peace and security prevail for generations to come.
