A Mother’s tears, a nation’s disgrace: the inhumane actions of Kyagulanyi Sentamu and his vohorts – Fredrick ES Mutengeesa

The death of Hon. Muhammad Segirinya was not just a loss to his family but a moment of collective mourning for a nation that respected his service and dedication. His passing called for dignity, respect, and unity in honoring his life. Yet, what should have been a solemn and sacred moment for his family, friends, and the people of Uganda was cruelly tarnished by the reprehensible actions of Bobi Wine (Kyagulanyi Sentamu) and his associates—Senyonyi, Libongoya, Muwanga Kivumbi, and others.

What unfolded was not just an act of political impunity but a heartbreaking display of moral decay and human insensitivity. Imagine the agony of Segirinya’s grieving mother—already devastated by the loss of her son—being forced to beg Kyagulanyi Sentamu for the simple dignity of allowing her son to be given a proper send-off, one that had been thoughtfully organized by the state and the Parliament of Uganda. Her tears and pleas, as a mother seeking peace for her child’s final journey, were met with violent objections and shocking disrespect.

How can we, as a society, allow such blatant disregard for humanity to go unchallenged? Kyagulanyi Sentamu and his mobilized hooligans acted in ways that not only disgraced the sanctity of death but also deeply humiliated a grieving family. The sheer arrogance, impunity, and moronic behavior demonstrated by these individuals are unforgivable. They abused the rights of a mother and desecrated the memory of the deceased, prioritizing their selfish political agenda over the basic principles of compassion and respect.

It is beyond shameful that, while Segirinya’s family mourned their beloved son, Kyagulanyi and his cohorts were celebrating, turning a moment of grief into a grotesque spectacle of chaos and selfishness. The children of the late Hon. Segirinya were robbed of the chance to mourn their father in peace. Instead of experiencing comfort and solidarity, they were thrust into a painful and humiliating ordeal orchestrated by those who should have known better.

This despicable episode sends a chilling message about the kind of leaders some of our society is producing—leaders who lack the decency to prioritize humanity over politics, who are willing to weaponize grief for personal gain, and who shamelessly trample on the sacred rites of mourning. This behavior is a dangerous precedent, one that risks eroding the moral and cultural values that hold us together as Ugandans.

As parents, we are left to grapple with a profound sense of betrayal and fear for the future of our children. What kind of message does this send to the youth of Uganda? That violence, arrogance, and disregard for others are acceptable paths to influence and power? That grieving families can be mocked and marginalized for political gain? Such actions threaten to poison the very fabric of our society and undermine the values we strive to pass on to the next generation.

Kyagulanyi Sentamu and his allies not only disgraced themselves but also inflicted deep wounds on the moral conscience of this nation. Their actions cost us not just in terms of emotional pain but in the erosion of trust, unity, and respect. They demonstrated a lack of basic human decency and empathy, qualities that are fundamental to leadership.

We must, as a nation, condemn these actions in the strongest terms possible. We must demand accountability for the humiliation and pain inflicted on Segirinya’s family and for the stain left on our collective humanity. Leadership is not about mob rule or reckless defiance; it is about serving with integrity, empathy, and respect for all, especially the vulnerable and grieving.

To Segirinya’s mother and family, your pain is a burden we share. Your tears are not in vain, and your courage in the face of such indignity is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. As Ugandans, we stand with you in solidarity and commit to ensuring that such shameful acts are not repeated.

To Kyagulanyi Sentamu and his followers, your actions have not just dishonored a family; they have dishonored the principles of humanity and the values of our culture. Uganda deserves better, and the people will demand better.

Let this be a turning point for reflection and change. Let us rebuild a society where compassion, respect, and unity prevail over chaos, arrogance, and division. The soul of Uganda depends on it.
