Police in Arua on  Monday December 16, 2024  discontinued and impounded an unroadworthy bus full of passengers  belonging to California Bus Services.

The bus that was en route to Kampala   with  registration number UBF 016L (Scania), driven by  Bada Stephen, was   intercepted at  Enzeva  at around 9: 14 am , by a team of police conducting a snap check point, and returned to Arua Central Police Station.

Police said in a statement that the action was taken upon the management’s failure to heed to the earlier warning issued to them by the District Traffic Officer.

The West nile regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the incident, adding that  the bus which was  en route to Kampala was deemed unfit for road use by the inspector of Vehicles in September this year.

”  The bus, which was en route to Kampala carrying passengers, was deemed unfit for road use by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) in September 2024 (reference TSD 07/16/13/2024)”  Asea stated.

” At approximately  9:15 AM today, the bus was intercepted at Enzeva by a police team conducting a snap checkpoint. Despite several warnings issued to the management by the District Traffic Officer (DTO) and the IOV, no corrective action was taken” He added.

The  Police also advises all road users to adhere to road safety rules and regulations, especially during the festive season, to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.

In a bid to curb high accidents rate,  Traffic Police  nationwide  continue to undertake  efforts  to promote self-regulation and discipline among road users through sensitization programs conducted by the traffic police which  includes engagement with motorcycle taxi operators, bus operators, as well as conducting a radio and TV programs.
