A black fuso fighter Motor vehicle with registration number UBA 895X, lost control along Owafa – Arua-Yumbe Road, in Terego District, killing one passenger on spot and injuring eight others.
Police preliminary findings indicates that the Monday, 25 , 2024, 6:00 PM harrowing incident occured due to brake failure.
The deceased has been identified as Jane Oniru, 60, a resident of Bileafa , Terego District. Her body has been conveyed at Arua regional referral hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile the other eight critically injured victims are receiving treatment at various health facilities.
The accident scene was later visited for documentation by officers led by the District Police Commander and the Officer in Charge Traffic.
Police said the vehicle remains at the site, awaiting breakdown services and inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.
The West Nile regional Police Spokesperson Collins Asea, confirmed the incident.
“A black Fuso Fighter motor vehicle, registration number UBA 895X, lost control while descending Tooth Can Loss Hill in Terego District due to suspected brake failure. The vehicle overturned, resulting in the unfortunate loss of one life and injuries to eight other passengers” Asea’s statement reads in part
He added that ” efforts are ongoing to trace the driver, who is currently at large”
A case of fatal Road Traffic Accident has been opened under reference number TGO TAR 42/2024.
According to Police, inquiry into the tragic incident is underway and the public will be subsequently updated on further developments.
