A fuso truck carrying more than fifty traders and farmers majority of whom were women, overturned at Awendukei village, Otheko Parish, Paidha Sub-County, Zombo district on Saturday 12, October.
The truck with Registration No. UAP 846 P, was transporting people from Paidha Sub-County to Paidha Main Market in Paidha town council.
Eyewitnesses blamed the incident on overloading , poor mechanical condition of the truck and also the deplorable state of road.
The LCIII chairperson of Paidha Sub-County William Okethi, confirmed the incident saying ” we haven’t got any report of fatalities but many people were critically injured”
When this Publication visited the office of Zombo District Traffic Police department, details about the number of casualties were scanty, since officers were at the crime scene to ascertain the cause of the harrowing incident.
A Source from Paidha central Police station however said ” we rushed many people to various health facilities but seven people were critically injured”
Bruno Obomba, the Assistant Resident district commissioner of Zombo received the news with great shock.
The 2023 traffic Police report indicates that road crashes claim lives of 12 to 13 people daily in Uganda.
For example in 2023, 4,806 Ugandans died in road crashes as compared to 4,534 deaths recorded in 2022.
