Tamale Mirundi, Former Presidential Press Secretary, Dies.

The nation is in mourning following the death of Tamale Mirundi, a prominent political analyst and former Senior Presidential Press Secretary, who passed away after a prolonged battle with illness. Mirundi, aged 65, succumbed to the illness after fighting for his life for over three weeks at a hospital in Kisubi, near Kampala.

Tamale Mirundi, known for his sharp tongue and unapologetic stance on political matters, was a key figure in Uganda’s media and political landscape. He first gained prominence as a journalist before being appointed as the Senior Presidential Press Secretary to President Yoweri Museveni, a position he held for 14 years. During his tenure, he was known for his fierce loyalty to the President and his outspoken nature, often defending the government’s actions with unwavering conviction.

However, his time in the State House was not without controversy. In 2015, Mirundi left his position in what many considered an unceremonious exit, attributing his departure to the actions of what he termed as “mafias” within the government who were allegedly working against him. Despite this, Mirundi continued to remain a vocal supporter of President Museveni and his administration, though he frequently criticized other government officials whom he believed were not acting in the country’s best interests.

After leaving his position in the State House, Mirundi transitioned into a role as a political analyst, where he continued to make his mark on the public discourse. He became a household name through his fiery television and radio appearances, where he offered his insights on the state of the nation and political affairs. His direct and often controversial commentary won him a large following among Ugandans, who appreciated his candid approach to discussing sensitive topics.

Mirundi’s death marks the end of an era for many who viewed him as a fearless voice in Uganda’s political arena. His contributions to both journalism and political commentary will be remembered by those who admired his tenacity and dedication to his beliefs.

Details of his funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, as the nation mourns the loss of a man who left an indelible mark on Uganda’s political landscape.
