Security nets 40 suspected criminals in Arua city

Police in Arua city are having in their custody 40 Male  suspected criminals who were arrested on July 29, 2024 in an  intelligent-led operation.

The operation was aimed at  cleaning  Arua City of  notorious maniac  criminals exacerbating   insecurity through thefts, robberies, breakings, burglaries and other offences police said.

SSP Angucia Josephine, the west Nile regional police spokesperson in a July 30, 2024 statement said the suspects were arrested on various offenses.

” Monday 29th July 2024, Police conducted an intelligence led operation together with the community leaders in areas of Ekarakafe cell, Kirabu cell, Ediofe Trading Centre, Ociba coast, Osu cell, Awindiri cell and Bamboo village area, all in Arua City, in which 40 notorious male suspects were arrested for various offenses” .

She added that exhibits were recovered in the operation and the suspects will  appear  before a court to formally hear the charges brought against them.

” Exhibits were recovered and the Suspects are in custody at Arua City Central Division Police Station pending investigations. At the end of investigations, their casefiles will be forwarded to Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal advice, and upon sanctioning, they will be arraigned before court for trials. The purpose of conducting these intelligence led operations is to clean Arua City of notorious criminals who cause insecurity through thefts, robberies, breakings, burglaries and other offences, and it will continue until sanity returns to the City”

Lately, Arua city residents have been taking matters in their own hands to murder theft suspects following hike in cases in the  inner and outer ring of the city.

There has been string of  operations of that similar nature by security to   Pacify the city.

But the town dwellers have severally  been accusing Authorities of early release of these suspects, thus springboarding the vice in the city with the population of over 300,000 people.
