4 minors swept away by first flowing stream in Zombo

In a hair-raising twist of event,

Four children  below the age of 10 were rescued by a good Samaritan after they were swept away by the fast  flowing Zingili stream, at Zingili cell, Zingili Ward,  Paidha Town Council Zombo District.

This  after the Friday July 26,  driving rains   had preceded its normal level,   making the area’s narrow and slippery  footpaths  without any footbridge extremely dangerous.

Unaware of the risk, the quartet, all residents of Zingili cell , whilst attempting to cross the stream  holding each other’s hand, slipped  altogether and were overpowered by the roaring waters.

Robert Odubi, a security guard at Paidha town council swiftly responded without hesitation, to save  the children’s  life.

Odubi who sustained some minor injuries in his hand during the rescue mission  recounted the harrowing experience to this Publication saying ” I risked jumping into the fast flowing waters after  four children fell all together as they attempted to cross the stream, they were all coming back from Juma prayers from Abdeen Mosque , in the rescue process, I lost my phone  including the bag, but I thank God that they survived”.

All the four were  safe and  handed back to their family members at Zingili cell.

Micheal Kerango, a resident of Zingili cell, tore into Paidha Town Council leadership for not putting footbridge in the area for a very long time, exposing residents particularly children to  greater risk.

Asked on Paidha  town council’s plan about the concerns raised , Pascal Kumakech, The area Councillor who double as the Chairperson finance committee at the council said ” the council is looking for ways of fixing that footbridge and I personally will push for it at the council”

Kumakech also called upon parents not to allow their children’s  movement in such risky areas during this time when the area is experiencing heavy downpours.

Recently, a four year old minor also  drowned in River Nyagak in Atyak Sub-County Zombo District.
