Personality of the Day: Nannono Sarah Kaweesi; the newly appointed first female Kayima (County Chief) of Mawokota County

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda II has appointed new county chiefs (Abaami b’Amasaza) for the Buganda kingdom which are 18 and the majority of them have got new chiefs.

Some of outgoing chiefs have served the Buganda kingdom for more than five years and now have been replaced by new ones.

For the first time, Mawokota County which has been under the leadership of Kayima, Oweek. Gabriel Kabonge has a female chief Sarah Nannono Kaweesi, who has been a deputy sub-county chief (Omwami w’Eggombolola) of Mumyuuka Kammengo where the county seat (embuga y’essaza) is located at Butoolo.

Married to Edward Kaweesi, Sarah Nannono is a Muganda by tribe subscribing to the Ngo Clan, very loyal to her clan head Omutaka Muteesaasira Kkeya Ttendo Namuyimba II.

She is an educationist with years of experience in early childhood development and adult learning facilitation.

Subscribing to the Catholic religion, Mrs Nannono Sarah Kaweesi has served the church in different capacities including being ‘Head of Laity’ for Nalumunye Sub Parish in Kyengera Parish.

She served as the Treasurer for the Ssaabagabo Nsangi Sub-county Council under the Busiro County administration.

Sarah Nannono Kaweesi is an entrepreneur, a founding member of the Grand Konde Memorial Association (GKMA),Lubaga Grain Millers Association a uniting umbrella of mostly produce entrepreneurs in Kampala.

She’s the proprietor of Mulungi Produce Stores.

At the time of her appointment as Mawokota County chief, Mrs Nannono Sarah Kaweesi has been serving as deputy sub-county chief of Mumyuka Kammengo (Omumyuka wa Mumyuka), a seat she ascended to in June 2023.

She’s a good mobilizer, who helped Mumyuuka Kammengo under the leadership of Mumyuuka, Omwami Matovu Stephen Muliika to finish in the first four positions of the ranks of the best performing Buganda Kingdom Sub counties last year.

She is also an environmentalist who encourages Kabaka’s subjects to conserve the environment and has on different occasions participated in tree planting campaigns in Mawokota together with various organizations including; Urgent Climate Action Africa (UCAA), Omuto Foundation, Fridays For Future Uganda among others.
