Morgan Heritage lead singer Peter Morgan dies at 46

Peter “Peetah” Morgan, lead singer of Grammy-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage, died. The band said the singer died February 25.

Peter Morgan also corroborated with Uganda’s musician Jose Chameleon.

“It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and lead singer of Morgan Heritage Peter Anthony Morgan has ascended today,” the group said.

Our family appreciates you in advance for your enormous love and support, and we ask for your prayers during this time. Please respect our privacy during this healing process.”

The organisation did not reveal Peter’s death cause. His age was 46.

Jamaican singer Denroy Morgan had over twenty children, including Peter Morgan. Since the 1960s, Brooklyn has been home to thousands of Jamaicans. He was born there on July 11, 1977.

Five Morgan siblings founded Morgan Heritage in 1994. Their debut album Miracles was released the same year after signing with MCA.

After Miracles, the family went to Jamaica, Denroy’s country.

Over time, Una and Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan left, leaving Peter, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. They completed group and individual tasks.

Strictly Roots, released in 2015, won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2016. In 2018, the band was nominated for another Grammy for Avrakedabra.

For 30 years, Peter Morgan has led Morgan Heritage through some of the most influential roots-reggae anthems.

From classics like “Don’t Haffi Dread (To Be Rasta)” to emotional songs like “Down by the River” and “She’s Still Loving Me,” his vocals have shaped reggae music.
