Tragedy strikes Makindye: UPDF Man shoots wife to death

In a harrowing turn of events, the tranquil neighbourhood of Katwe in Kampala was plunged into sorrow and disbelief following a chilling murder-suicide incident that unfolded on the morning of February 20, 2024.

According to a statement released by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident involved Corporal Andebo Collins, a military police officer stationed at Makindye Military Police, and Atulinda Peroni, a civilian support staff associated with the military police. The two had been romantically involved and shared a residence in Lusaka Zone, Makindye 1, Makindye Division.

The tragic sequence of events began at approximately 07:00 hours when Corporal Andebo Collins, armed with an AK-47 rifle and disguised in civilian clothing, confronted Atulinda Peroni as she was preparing to board a motorcycle. Without warning, he unleashed a hail of gunfire, grievously injuring Atulinda, whose arm was shattered in the attack. Shockingly, Corporal Andebo Collins then turned the weapon on himself, succumbing to his injuries upon arrival at Mulago Hospital.

The swift response of law enforcement officers from Katwe Police Station and the Military Police was commendable, as they rushed Atulinda Peroni to Nsambya Hospital in a bid to save her life. Tragically, despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Her body has since been transported to City Mortuary Mulago for further examination.

Details emerging from the investigation paint a grim picture of a relationship marred by strife and discord. It is reported that Corporal Andebo Collins and Atulinda Peroni had grappled with relationship issues for an extended period, spanning approximately five years. The recovery of the firearm used in the attack, along with 13 cartridges found at the scene, underscores the gravity of the situation.

As the authorities continue their inquiry into this tragic incident, the community of Katwe is left reeling from the shock and devastation. The sudden loss of two lives serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of human existence and the profound impact of violence on individuals and communities alike.

Whisper Ey News extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this senseless tragedy. As the community mourns, we stand together in solidarity, offering support and comfort during this difficult time.
