Residents of Aka Sub-county Zombo District on January 10, 2024, woke up to a rudely awakening news of the reported murder by burning of Reginal Oyenykeu, a student of Pacer Polytechnic.He was pursuing a certificate in welding and metal fabrication.
Oyenykew was reportedly burnt inside his house at Sina Village and effort to rescue him proved futile as community couldn’t break into the house which was already in flames .
Eyewitnesses say the deceased house was reportedly set alight at around 2.am on Wednesday.
Ketha Openjmungu , The LCI chairperson of the Village said ” the deceased was last seen on Tuesday at Zeu lorr Market with his wife with whom he separated a year ago”
He added that the deceased former wife with whom he was spotted yesterday vanished in thin air ever since the incident happened, raising more queries about her.
“We suspect the former wife also because ever the incident happened, she disappeared completely yet she is ever in this area. Many people who tried to come and save him were left helpless after his house was full of blaze” Ketha explained.
The LC3 chairperson of Aka Sub-county Brian Oromcan said the deceased could have been locked up from outside and his house set alight adding that ” preliminary finding indicates that he made alarm for neighbors to come to his rescue which was too late” .
Oromcan also called for calm Amongst relatives assuring that police have launched inquiry into the alleged gruesome killing of the student.
Zombo District Criminal investigation officer ASP Collins Tayebwa who visited the crime scene said, investigation into the matter has commenced and called upon members of the public to assist Police with relevant information.
The body was handed over to the relatives for burial after autopsy was conducted by health workers from Zeu health center III.
This is the third murder case registered in Zombo this year.
