Luweero District locals raise concerns to SPA Ruth Katushabe over graft in PDM cash

Locals raised concerns during a community mobilization meeting between locals and area leaders held in Kikyusa town council-Bamunanika Constituency,Luwero district over district officials sabotaging the Parish Development Model.

Teddy Nakazibwe, a resident of gayaza ,kikyusa town council said her PDM account received Shs300,000 yet she had signed to receive Shs1 million

“On my account I found Shs 300,000 and even upon the withdrawal of the money, I received Shs 290,000 claiming that Shs 10,000 remains on the account. So, I am wondering because at first, we signed to receive Shs 1000,000 and it’s what we need to return at the end, but now what shall we return,” Nakazibwe stated.

The meeting that attracted Local council leaders and mayors among others was led by the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs (SPA/PA), Ruth Katushabe as the chief guest.

In her speech, Katushabe appealed to residents and beneficiaries of PDM in Luwero to report their concerns to responsible offices including the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC),Luwero to ensure quick interventions and investigations into the matter.

“If it’s true; this is a sign of corruption, Luwero has over the years been a historical and peaceful area in the history of the liberation of our country. Therefore, we can’t just keep quiet when our people are suffering. I argue the people of Luwero to be vigilant, work with security agencies including Police, leaders, office of the RDC and also state house anti-corruption unit to ensure those criminals are apprehended and charged into courts of law” Katushabe said.

Katushabe also added that residents should continue to embrace and participate in government programmes including the Parish development model (PDM) as a plan to eradicate poverty and ensure social economic transformation.

“This money is meant to help those who are vulnerable and living in poverty. I wonder how these selfish people can start sabotaging the process,” She added.

According to Kikyusa town council mayor, Paul Salabwa, PDM beneficiaries who didn’t receive the exact pay should report to his office for reconsideration.

“All our beneficiaries should have received a maximum of Shs 1000,000 on the accounts and I promise those that received what wasn’t enough, let them come to my office; we handle the matter well” Salabwa said.
