UNRA move to fix potholes as pressure mounts

Uganda National Roads Authorities have commenced work on dangerous spots on the road under their Jurisdiction in Zombo District,  following a string of relentless concerns about the deplorable condition of the road worsened by the pounding rain.

The areas temporarily fixed are the impassable spot at Mathawele village,  in Oyeyu Parish Nyapea Sub-county, and The numerous potholes at  Jupathombu In Oturgang ward Paidha Town Council amongst other places.

Last week, a report emerged about  Zombo District officials abandoning work,  failing to access office, and paying money for youths to push them through muddy spots amongst others.

Over the weekend, UNRA officials were seen struggling to fix some of the dangerous spots as the community continued to be vociferous over the sorry state of the road.

Joe Ubedgiu,  The area Councillor of Oyeyu Parish Said  “I commend UNRA for the great work and appealed that more marram be put to address the situation for good”.

He added, “If more marram is poured at that bad spot in Oyeyu Parish, the situation will be much better”.

A string of promises has been made by the government about tarmacking the road for ages but locals are yet waiting to see when the fulfilment will come to pass.

The District councillor of Athuma sub county Francis Bolingo,  who of late has been mobilizing locals to fix dangerous spots on UNRA Road in some areas has vowed to make keen follow-ups.

” We have so many dangerous spots that the UNRA must fix all because our people are suffering here due to bad roads, I will personally monitor them to ensure they don’t showcase shoddy work,” Bolingo told the whispereye news.

Recently, a group of youth activists irked by the deplorable condition of the road held a peaceful demonstration to send a message to the government about the plights everyone is encountering as a result of the sorry state of this road.

The LC5 chairperson of Zombo James Oruna Oyullu said ” With UNRA I submitted a request on behalf of the Zombo people last year when the president came for the Alur King coronation. And that is the best I can do on your behalf”

The   119 kilometres of Nebbi-Paidha Zeu-Warr-Vura road, which for ages has been at the centre of discussion amongst The   Greater Nebbi community is slippery, muddy and impassable during the rainy season and dusty during the dry season.
