Mixed reactions as Arua teenager dumped own baby in a pit latrine

Authorities in Ayivu West Division, Arua City have arrested a 16 year old female female teenager over allegations of murdering her two weeks old baby by dumping it in a pit Latrine.

The teenager, a primary 4 dropout  is a resident of Ediofe Ewanyapa cell, Komite ward, Ayivu West Division, Arua City 

The west Nile regional police spokesperson Josephine Angucia who confirmed the arrest of the teenager said the incident happened on Wednesday 06th December 2023 adding that inquiries continue under Ayivu West Division CRB 236/2023. 

” She dumped her baby in a pit latrine at 2 am on Wednesday 06th December 2023, while staying under the care of her responsible brother in Ewanyapa cell. When this information reached the police, they rushed to the scene and found the baby removed from the pit but died. They arrested the suspect who is currently detained at Arua Central Business Division pending to be transferred to Ayivu West Division headquarters. Postmortem was done to the body. Relevant statements were recorded. The motive of dumping the body into the pit latrine is not yet known” Angucia said in a statement. She advised teenagers against indulging in ” unhealthy relationships with the opposite sex that can expose them to child pregnancies and marriage “

Parents and guardians have also been urged to take responsibility and offer advise to their children frequently.
