Nebbi Bishop intensifies sensitisation about HIV/AIDS prevalence

The Bishop of the Diocese of Nebbi church of Uganda Rt. Rev Pons Ozelle Awinju has cautioned believers against practices that are springboards to the spread of HIV/AIDS.  #WhisperEyeNews

He made the revelation to hundreds of believers for a pastoral visit in Paidha Parish at Mvungu Upper Primary School playground early this week.

According to the Bishop, There are some common practices like rampant sharing of sharp Objects especially by grandmothers on young ones. This he said is spreading the infection like wildfire and advised mothers against the practice.

He also advised that “unfavorable cultural practices like spending more days in  marriage ceremonies” be reduced since it exposed young ones to unreligious practices thus making them vulnerable.

He further made a shocking revelation that ” Zombo is the leading district in West Nile Sub-region in terms of HIV/AIDS Prevalence”.

Message against the practices that champion the spread of HIV/AIDS has become on the fingertips of the Bishop as he is for his pastoral visits across the Diocese.

The Whispereye news has further learnt that HIV/AIDS Prevalence in West Nile Sub-region stands at 7% and Zombo takes 2% of the share.

The chairperson of Forum for people living with HIV AIDS in Zombo Collins Canudwoga has called for a concerted effort across board to curb the spread of the virus.

He also revealed that many religious leaders and   believers ” when  tested and found positive later dispute results thus puting their lives at risk” 

He advised that “believers of various religious denominations should not  live in denial of HIV AIDS”.

By the end of September this year, a total of 4,094 clients in Zombo were reported to be active in care and many are believe to be living in denial.

Last year, only 117 clients out of the thousands tested were found HIV positive in Zombo.
