Police recover other firearms in West Nile, Two arrested

A joint police operation in Koboko District has led to the recovery of pistol No T6115138 without a magazine, 78 live ammunition of SMG Rifle, Green Plastic army bottle and Six MTN Sim cards at Nyelwa Village, Midia sub county Koboko.

The SSP Angucia Josephine, Public Relations Officer  West Nile Region said in a statement that two suspects have been arrested and are being held at Koboko Police Station to aid in the investigation.

The two suspects have been identified as  Zubeda Girisma 30, a resident of Nyelwa Village and Francis Chandiga, A south Sudanese refugee.

The prime suspect only identified as Ivan is still at large according to Police 

“On 25th October 2023 at about 10 am, an intelligence-led operation was conducted in Nyelwa village, Midia sub county  in Koboko District by a joint team of police officers, GISO of Midia Subcounty in Koboko and the LCs of the area that led to the recovery of fire arms. The team started by cordoning off the premises of one Zubeda Gisima a female adult, 30yrs old, Kakwa by tribe, a business woman and a resident of Nyelwa village Midia sub-county, Koboko District where the fire arms were suspected to be. A search was conducted at the same premises in one of the Rental rooms of one only identified as Ivan who rented a room and stayed for two weeks and then disappeared to unknown  place. The  items  recovered during the search included pistol No.T6115138 without  a magazine, Seventy eight (78)live ammunitions of SMG Rifle, Green plastic army bottle (Kibuyi), and Six MTN sim cards. 

The owner of the premises Zubeda Grisna, a landlady to one identified as  Ivan the suspect and the dealer who connected Ivan to the landlord for a room to rent, by name of Chandiga Francis South Sudan refugee was apprehended by police to assist in the investigation. 

The exhibits recovered are being kept at Koboko central police station as inquiries continue in to the matter under Koboko SD ref 33/25/10/2023.” SSP Joshephin Angucia said .

Recently, Fire arms were also  recovered in Koboko, Maracha, Arua amongst other westnile places and many security sources attributes the cases to porous nature of some districts in westnile that borders DR.Congo and South Sudan.
