Uganda At 61: NUP SG Lewis Rubongoya , MP Ssenyonyi arrested

The National Unity Platform leaders have been arrested at their headquarters in Kamwokya.

Rubongoya and several members of the NUP were heading to their headquarters in Kamwokya to hold prayers as celebrations of Uganda’s independence against the continued abduction, arrest and alleged killing of its supporters to date.

The police and UPDF army have since taken over and deployed at NUP headquarters with several combat vehicles now seen patrolling the streets and arresting many donning NUP colours.

The Kyagulanyi-led party recently announced that he would lead prayers at their headquarters because as Uganda has 61 years since independence, the abduction of NUP supporters, the trial of civilians in military courts and the arrest of political leaders continues.

This morning, the secretary general of NUP David Lewis Rubongoya, spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, reached their headquarters which was already sealed off by the military.

However, these were intercepted immediately around their gates by anti-riot police and field force unit personnel and taken to the Kira Road police station in a drone.

During the scuffle, the police and updf beat up people to disperse the gathering crowds. Police spokesperson Fred Enanga is yet to comment on the developments.

Last Week on the 5th of October 2023, Hon Robert Kyagulanyi was arrested at the Airport tarmac and driven to his home in Magere without a charge to prevent him from being welcomed by his supporters.
