“Be revolutionary and patriotic.” ISO boss Katabazi tells students leaders

On the 29th of September 2023, the Kampala City Students Council leaders converged at Lubiri Secondary School for a day symposium on leadership where they invited the Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organisation Lt Col Emmy Katabazi as among the guest speakers of the day.

In his speech, Lt col Katabazi urged the student leaders to be revolutionary and patriotic so as to be resourceful and beneficial to their country Uganda and Africa at large.

Lt Col Katabazi said that the problems of Uganda and Africa at large are orchestrated by the external elements (foreigners) who do not wish the black continent any good but rather want to exploit it just as they have been doing in the past for so many centuries.

Speaking to the student leaders that gathered, Katabazi advised them to embrace their Pan-African spirit and practice patriotism in order to see themselves as potential agents of positive change in Uganda. He pointed out that the majority of Uganda’s notable revolutionaries were also students.

“Some of those who led the revolution to liberate this country were students in high school and universities just like you. President Museveni at senior six, left Uganda and went to Dar El Salam, picked the gun, and fought for the liberation of Mozambique with General Salim Saleh who left in senior two,” Katabazi said.

The ISO boss also advised the student leaders to take keen interest in the different government poverty eradication programs as a tool for social economic development.

“You should learn about government programs as leaders of today and help such programs to be implemented without corruption,” he added.

“I saw brilliant young people who understood the problems of Africa on that day. And it is good that some of those students came from within you,” he noted.

Among the other speakers of the day was the guest of Honour Hon Ruth Katushabe the Senior Presidential Advisor on political Affairs and translations who advised the student leaders to always act as good examples to their fellow students. In her message, the Senior Presidential Advisor tipped the student leaders on being patriotic urging them to always put their country first before anything else as this is the only way we shall move forward as a nation.

Hon Katushabe also advised the young girls in leadership to always act good and be determined if the girl child is to compete successfuly with the boys in all positions of authority. She also advised the young girls to always desist from the primitive mindset of waiting for men to provide for them adding that no man can respect a woman who is always begging but one who can do something for herself.

The annual meeting student leaders meeting was attended by students from different secondary schools in Kampala and teachers including Nabisunsa Girls S.S, Kibuli Secondary School, Kyambogo College, Kitante Hill School, Mengo Senior Secondary School, and Kawempe Moslim, Gayaza High School, Makerere College School, Kololo SS, among others.
