The victims mainly traders who are currently receiving treatment at Nyapea hospital survived after a  fuso truck with registration number UBL 8990 they were traveling in  from Paidha Town Council destined for Zeu Local Market in Zombo District overturned leaving scores of traders with critical injuries.

The accident happened on the morning of September 26, at Oyeyo Parish Nyapea Sub-county.

The unidentified driver of the truck escaped unharmed and the truck was taken to Paidha Central Police Station.

Jalar Arua, a resident of Jupandika east, Nyibola Ward Paidha Town Council who is one of the survivors broke both legs. He said he has been referred to  Lacor Hospital and 2.2 million Ugandan shillings are needed yet he doesn’t have any support. Jalar is appealing for help from well-wishers.

“I’m happy that I survived, I give Glory back to God. Both my legs got broken and the doctors referred me to Lacor Hospital in Gulu. The cost is Ugx 2.2 million, where will I get that money, I don’t have anything now. If anyone can help us, please do that” Jalar told this Publication.

John Marchak, another survivor who is a resident of Nebbi Town but currently at Nyapea hospital said many people sustained serious injuries but are financially incapacitated.

He added that more than 14 people who sustained minor injuries were discharged.

” Most of us can’t afford treatment recommended by doctors here, we really need help” Marchalk told this Publication in a telephone conversation.

more than 20 people were admitted with critical injuries at Nyapea hospital but no death has been recorded

The area Councillor of Oyeyu Parish Nyapea Sub county Joe Ubedgiu after checking on the victims in the morning of September 27, explained that the victims are really in  need of enough support from business community, politicians and all well_wishers. He said many are with broken limbs, and all sorts of injuries.

“If we have politicians, the business community and well-wishers, they should really come and help these people here. I see real real trouble here, people being taken for x-rays with different injuries, you don’t want to see this ” Ubedgiu appealed.

The cause of the accident is still unclear but most victims attributed it to the poor mechanical condition of the truck.

Last month, two people died in the same sub_county as a result of a nasty motorcycle collision and lately, there has been a spike in cases of road accidents in the District.

Last year’s police annual crime report indicated that 12 people die of road crashes annually in Uganda and 61% of the cases are attributed to reckless riding.
