The Saturday Masaza Cup edition saw Mawokota drawing the islanders, Ssese at their home ground Lutoboka with a 1:1 game result.
Joseph Kayondo’s hard direct free-kick in the 71st minute sent Mawokota fans into wide celebrations, but it was watered down in the 78th minute when Ssese’s Masereka Mubarak answered through a penalty kick.
Mawokota’s draw at Lutoboka accompanied by Kabula’s 2:1 win against Gomba at Bakijjulula sent Mawokota to the 1st position of the Muganzirwazza group with 13 points followed by Gomba in the 2nd position with 12 points.
Mawokota’s head coach Richard Malinga while speaking to Whisper Eye News said that earning a point from Ssesse at Lutoboka gave more hope. “It’s been a hard game. Each team is prepared at this moment. But at least we’ve managed to get a point.
Now that we have only 2 games remaining to seal off the group stages, we only promise positive results. Since day one, the team has consistently adopted to accomplish the general dream. We’re pushing towards our dream.” Malinga said.
