Four students arrested over masterminding violent strike in Moyo

Authorities at  Moyo central police station in Moyo District West Nile sub-region, have apprehended four students of Bishop Asili secondary school, who are suspected to have spearheaded a violent strike in the school.

The strike happened at 10:45 Pm on the 2nd of  August 2023.

The incident was reported to Moyo central police station by the school Deputy Headteacher Collins Kwendi.

It’s unclear why the students went on strike.

Police have identified the suspects as Aluma Benard 17, Pamungu Mozes 16, Asigazi Gilbert 18 and Munduku Jeremy 16. They are currently at Moyo Central Police Station to help with the investigation.

According to the North West Nile region police spokesperson Ignatius Dragudu, The students went on a rampage damaging the food store before police intervened.

He said police later visited the crime scene and retrieved exhibits and four students are being held.

” The students went on strike and damaged office widows they entered into the office and picked some old pass papers Of UCE for the year  2022 and burnt them inside the office. They went ahead and burnt the food store halfway Good enough, The watchman together with some good Samaritans came around and put the fire off” The statement from Ignatius Dragudu, The north West Nile region police spokesperson reads in part.

Yesterday, All senior four students of Excell College Pakwach in Pakwach district were suspended after they went on strike.

There has been a hike in cases of strikes in schools across the West Nile subregion right from 2022.
