MADI OKOLLO: The incoming DEO has pledged to work as team with the staff in the department and all the stakeholders in Madi Okollo the better and revive the declined academic performance of the district.
Ayiba George appreciated the opportunity the district has offered him to head the education department. He said that his philosophy is to be a servant but not a boss.
The District Education Officer who served in the same capacity in Nwoya district local government before he transferred his services to Madi-Okollo District has replaced Ovua Shem substantively appointed as the Senior Inspector of Schools and will be in charge of inspection in the district.
The outgoing DEO Ovua while handing over office implore Mr Ayiba George to also consider addressing the glaring staff gaps in the education sector that has peddled service delivery to the learners.
“all the major positions are filled with the exception of DEO in charge of Guidance and Counselling under my administration we were implementing the Secondary school Expanded project plans to construct schools in Ewanga, Rigbo and Anyiribu sub counties my appeal is for you to ensure those projects are finished timely to address some of the challenges in education in this district” Ovua appealed.
The outgoing DEO Ovua Shem in his tenure highlighted the construction of classrooms and latrines blocks, recruitments of a number of staff in the key department, the district improved in PLE exams, the department performed well in the national assessment, the other hand cited low enrolment in upper primary, low levels of achievements in national exams, high pupil teacher ratio, high dropout rates, teenage pregnancies, inadequate classrooms among others as some of the major challenges.
However, Lydia Oliru the Principal Human Resource officer who represented the CAO promised to offer full support to the education department to have competent staff absorbed to address merging contemporary hurdles reiterating that the department is one of the biggest and important for it nurtures and prepares the children’s future.
